NATIONAL URBAN SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM
- Type of resource:
- One of 28 National Federal Emergency Management Agency Teams.
- One of 8 State of California Office of Emergency Services Teams.
- One of 2 Collape Structure Rescue Teams in the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Established:
- September of 1991.
- Primary mission:
- Lifesaving extrication of victims trapped by structural collapse
during earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, floods, acts of terrorism
and other disasters.
- Secondary Mission:
- Preservation of property through structure stabilization and property
conservation.
- Structure:
- 200 involved team members. 62 members will respond to State or
Federal requests for aid. Configuration consists of:
- 12 Management Personnel
- 24 Rescue Specialists
- 6 Search Specialists (4 Canine)
- 6 Medical Specialists (2 Doctors)
- 14 Technical Specialists

- Disaster Field Operational Unit for Structural Collapse Incidents.
- 6 hour deployment window.
- 73 hour self-sustaining in field

Mutual Aid via Fire Net 6 communications control center.
- Out of County agencies can request resources through your local
Office of Emergency Services.
